How To - Video Teaching
We encourage you to consider contributing a message for other churches to use. The truth God shares through you could very well change a life on the other side of the world!
The teaching theme for this year is Unstoppable, because when the Church unites, it's unstoppable. What could God accomplish through us if we were all pulling together? What kind of change could we see in the world? Unstoppable grace, unstoppable compassion, unstoppable evangelism, unstoppable love, unstoppable generosity, unstoppable truth, unstoppable hope... If you're contributing a message, your teaching should include an Unstoppable theme like one of these examples. We can't wait to see your creativity!
Below, you'll find a video and some tips to help you develop and record your message for maximum effectiveness.
Key points from the video
- Leave a 3 second pause before you start speaking.
- As you begin your message, look straight into the camera and welcome people from other One Prayer churches.
- If you introduce your church, keep it short.
- In your references and illustrations, think global.
- Aim for a message length of no longer than 30 minutes.
- At the end of the message, pause before you go into a prayer.
- Include the version of the Bible you use in your Scripture references.
- Avoid going full screen with your scripture references or key points. Instead, use the provided One Prayer lower thirds (and please don't alter them).
- If you're using music, clips, pictures, graphics, etc., make sure you have copyright permission to do so.
- If you have pictures or videos of people in your message (like a man on the street interview) you'll need to provide a signed release form.
- May 10 is the deadline for submitting teaching messages.
key points for recording and submitting a video
- Use a lapel mic or headset mic to record your audio instead of the built-in microphone on the camera. People are more likely to forgive a bad picture than bad sound.
- Shoot on the highest grade camera you can afford or borrow. Small personal video cameras can be handy, but will cause headaches during editing.
- Make sure your subject is clearly lit from the front and stands out from the background.
- If you are shooting outdoors, try shooting on an overcast day to cut down shadows. If it is sunny out, make sure the sun stays behind the camera and make sure your camera isn't set on auto-iris.
- If shooting in an auditorium, shoot the speaker, not the stage. Frame up your speaker as close as you can comfortably keep him in focus.
- Start your video with a fade up from black, and end it with a fade to black.
- Send us your video in its native format (the video format you used to shoot). Use Quicktime if possible. Avoid compressing your video in WMV, DIVX, or H.264 codecs. This will cause our encoder problems and possibly prevent your video from being distributed.
- Please send us your file in the format described, loaded onto a portable hard drive, which we will return promptly.
